80th anniversary of D-Day: traffic restrictions unveiled
On June 6th, a Regulated Traffic Zone (ZCR) will be set up in the territory. It has been detailed on the website of the Calvados Prefecture .
Restricted Traffic Zone (RTZ)
This restricted traffic zone or RTZ will extend to the north and west of Caen, from the RN13 to the sea.
It will affect 125 municipalities and 144,000 inhabitants.
It will only be activated on 6 June, from 6am until 8pm.
A sticker must be displayed on the vehicle's windscreen before driving in the ZCR. The aim of this measure is to speed up checks on 6 June.
The stickers are only required for the day of 6 June and are compulsory if you need to enter the ZCR:
- to get home ;
- to carry out your professional activity;
- for any imperative and justified reason.
Pedestrians, cyclists and scooters do not need stickers.
For residents
For permanent or temporary residents and professionals in the ZCR, stickers are issued at the town hall on presentation of :
- the vehicle(s) registration document (except for professionals);
- Proof of residency or alternative documentation (rental agreement, hotel invoice, etc.)
- request form (available to download on the prefecture website);
- a valid identity document.
For people from outside the ZCR
People from outside the ZCR who wish to visit the area on 6 June for private or professional reasons must submit their request to the administrative centre either :
- By e-mail to dday80@calvados.gouv.fr (specifying in the subject line: Request for stickers)
- By post: Préfecture du Calvados - Cellule de Réponse au Public - 80e (CRP-0ème), rue Daniel Huet - 14038 - Caen (please provide a stamped envelope for the reply)
If you arrive before 6 June and do not intend to use the ZCR on that day, you will not need a sticker for your vehicle.
If you are due to arrive on 6 June (hotel reservations, rentals, tourism in general), you will be able to access the ZCR on presentation of your identity document and the rental contract justifying your entry into the zone, in "just-in-time" spaces.
It is strongly recommended that you ask your accommodation provider before you arrive to collect the sticker through them, thus facilitating your access to the ZCR on the day you plan to arrive.
You should plan ahead and ask your service provider (hotel, campsite, self-catering accommodation, etc.) or the person providing your accommodation to apply for a sticker on your behalf from a local authority located in the ZCR.
- RTZ residents (primary and secondary residences);
- Guests of hotels, B&Bs or campsites located in the RTZ;
- Those involved in day-to-day economic and social life who will be circulating the RTZ on June 06, 2024. This includes taxis, personal or public services, coach operators, company vehicles, etc.
Stickers will be issued:
- At the town hall from 22 April to 4 June
- At the prefecture from 22 April to 31 May
